प्रणम्य विकचः पादाव् अगृह्णात् स पितुस् तदा ॥
मातुश् च परमेष्वासस् तौ च नामास्य चक्रतुः ॥
घटभासोत्कच इति मातरं सो ऽभ्यभाषत ॥
अभवत् तेन नामास्य घटोत्कच इति स्म ह ॥
अनुरक्तश् च तान् आसीत् पाण्डवान् स घटोत्कचः ॥
तेषां च दयितो नित्यम् आत्मभूतो बभूव सः ॥

mātuś ca parameṣvāsas tau ca nāmāsya cakratuḥ ||
ghaṭabhāsotkaca iti mātaraṃ so 'bhyabhāṣata ||
abhavat tena nāmāsya ghaṭotkaca iti sma ha ||
anuraktaś ca tān āsīt pāṇḍavān sa ghaṭotkacaḥ ||
teṣāṃ ca dayito nityam ātmabhūto babhūva saḥ ||

घटभासोत्कच इति मातरं सः अभ्यभाषतghaṭabhāsotkaca iti mātaraṃ saḥ abhyabhāṣata"It shines like a pot, and is hairless" — thus he said to his mother,
अभवत् तेन नाम अस्य घटोत्कच इति स्म हabhavat tena nāma asya ghaṭotkaca iti sma hafrom that his name became Ghatotkacha;
अनुरक्तः च तान् आसीत् पाण्डवान् स घटोत्कचःanuraktaḥ ca tān āsīt pāṇḍavān sa ghaṭotkacaḥand that Ghatotkacha was devoted to those Pandavas,

अनुवाद

"Bowing, the hairless son — that great archer — fell at the feet of his father and mother, and they gave him a name. Because his head shone like a pot (ghata) and was hairless (utkacha), his name became Ghatotkacha. And he was devoted to those Pandavas, always dear to them, having become like one of their own."
