इत्य् अर्थम् इष्यते ऽपत्यं तारयिष्यति माम् इति ॥
तस्मिन्न् उपस्थिते काले तरतं प्लववन् मया ॥
इह वा तारयेद् दुर्गाद् उत वा प्रेत्य तारयेत् ॥
सर्वथा तारयेत् पुत्रः पुत्र इत्य् उच्यते बुधैः ॥
आकाङ्क्षन्ते च दौहित्रान् अपि नित्यं पितामहाः ॥
तान् स्वयं वै परित्रास्ये रक्षन्ती जीवितं पितुः ॥

ākāṅkṣante ca dauhitrān api nityaṃ pitāmahāḥ ||
tān svayaṃ vai paritrāsye rakṣantī jīvitaṃ pituḥ ||

तस्मिन् उपस्थिते काले तरतं प्लववत् मयाtasmin upasthite kāle tarataṃ plavavat mayānow that the time has come, cross over by means of me, as though by a raft;
इह वा तारयेत् दुर्गात् उत वा प्रेत्य तारयेत्iha vā tārayet durgāt uta vā pretya tārayetwhether it saves from calamity here, or saves after death,
सर्वथा तारयेत् पुत्रः पुत्रः इति उच्यते बुधैःsarvathā tārayet putraḥ putraḥ iti ucyate budhaiḥin every way the child saves; it is called 'putra' [the savior] by the wise;
आकाङ्क्षन्ते च दौहित्रान् अपि नित्यं पितामहाःākāṅkṣante ca dauhitrān api nityaṃ pitāmahāḥand grandfathers always long for the sons of a daughter [dauhitra] as well;
तान् स्वयं वै परित्रास्ये रक्षन्ती जीवितं पितुःtān svayaṃ vai paritrāsye rakṣantī jīvitaṃ pituḥthem too I myself will save, while protecting the life of my father;

अनुवाद

"For this reason offspring is desired: 'it will save me'; now that the time has come, cross over by means of me, as though by a raft. Whether it saves from calamity here, or saves after death, in every way the child saves; that is why the wise call it 'putra' [the savior]. And grandfathers always long for the benefit of a daughter's sons; them too I myself will save, while protecting my father's life."
