ममैव वचनाद् एष करिष्यति परंतपः ॥
ब्राह्मणार्थे महत् कृत्यं मोष्काय नगरस्य च ॥

Here Kunti openly takes responsibility for the decision upon herself. It is notable that she does not conceal anything: "by my word" — the mother openly stands behind what she has resolved; nobility does not hide behind others. Notable too is the twofold purpose she names: the good of a single brahmin and the salvation of an entire city; the sacrifice is conceived not for the sake of the few but for the many. A good deed, sanctioned by the word of an elder and directed toward the common good, is true dharma. Thus the scripture shows Kunti's firmness: she does not excuse herself, but proclaims her decision as right and good.
