न हिंस्या मानुषा भूयो युष्माभिर् इह कर्हि चित् ॥
हिंसतां हि वधः शीघ्रम् एवम् एव भवेद् इति ॥
तस्य तद् वचनं श्रुत्वा तानि रक्षांसि भारत ॥
एवम् अस्त्व् इति तं प्राहुर् जगृहुः समयं च तम् ॥

अनुवाद
Bhima said: "You must never harm people here again, for death will come quickly to those who harm — just as it did to this one." Vaishampayana continued: Hearing his words, those rakshasas, O Bharata, said to him, "So be it," and accepted that agreement.

Here victory is crowned by a covenant that protects the people forever. It is significant that Bhima is not content with the single death of the tyrant, but establishes a law: never to harm people again; true deliverance lies not in a single blow but in a lasting peace. Significant too is the means employed — a lesson of deterrence to evil through Baka's own example: "the same will happen to those who harm." Righteous power not only punishes evil but also binds it with dharma, turning threat into submission to law. Thus the scripture shows the fullness of victory: having struck down the man-eater, Bhima transforms even those who remain, and from the destruction of one is born the lasting safety of many.
