"Seeing the two of them, queen Prishati, longing for children, approached Yaja: 'Let these two know no mother other than me.' 'So be it,' said Yaja to her, wishing to please the king. And the brahmins, with satisfied hearts, gave them names: 'For boldness, for exceeding daring, for birth from dharma and from fiery radiance — let this son of Drupada be Dhrishtadyumna.' And they named Krishna 'Krishna,' for she was dark in complexion. Thus that pair was born at Drupada's great sacrifice."

Here the wondrously born children are received into the family and given names. Telling is the queen's request — that the children know her alone as mother: born of fire, they are adopted by love; motherhood lies in acceptance, too, not only in bearing. Here is a tenderness that embraces even miraculously manifested children as one's own. Telling, too, is the meaning of the names: 'Dhrishtadyumna' — bold and radiant, 'Krishna' — dark; the names express the very nature of those who bear them. The verse thus shows that even beings extraordinarily manifested enter into the human bonds of love; and the pair born of sacrifice gains a mother, names, and a place within Drupada's lineage.
