तेषाम् आकारभावज्ञः कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः ॥
द्वैपायनवचः कृत्स्नं संस्मरन् वै नरर्षभ ॥
अब्रवीत् स हि तान् भ्रातॄन् मिथोभेदभयान् नृपः ॥
सर्वेषां द्रौपदी भार्या भविष्यति हि नः शुभा ॥

Here the eldest brother makes an extraordinary decision — but one that saves their unity. It is significant that Yudhishthira is moved by two grounds: fear of discord among the brothers, and memory of Vyasa's word (and, through it, of Shiva's boon, ch. 157). This union is not an ordinary custom nor an example to imitate, but an exceptional arrangement ordained from above: a marriage sanctified by the will of a sage and a god, forestalling strife and preserving the harmony of the line; and Draupadi, a maiden godlike in nature, will remain wholly pure. Here the unity of the brothers and the word of a saint stand above the ordinary measure: where common dharma yields, providence acts. Thus the text shows that the extraordinary decision is made not out of willfulness but for the sake of dharma and concord; and Yudhishthira, honoring Vyasa's word, averts the coming rupture.
