तच् छ्रुत्वा द्रुपदो राजा कुन्तीपुत्रस्य भाषितम् ॥
विगर्हयाम् आस तदा धृतराष्ट्रं जनेश्वरम् ॥
आश्वासयाम् आस च तं कुन्तीपुत्रं युधिष्ठिरम् ॥
प्रतिजज्ञे च राज्याय द्रुपदो वदतां वरः ॥

Here an old friendship becomes a firm alliance. It is significant that Drupada, upon hearing of the intrigues, condemns their instigator and at once pledges help in reclaiming the kingdom: friendship is tested by misfortune and reveals itself in active support. Here it is seen that a righteous ally is indignant at wrongdoing and does not delay in action. Thus the text reveals Drupada's loyalty; and behind the Pandavas now stands a mighty ally on the path to their rightful due.
