देवनागरी
कम् उपादाय शक्येत गन्तुं कस्यापद् उत्तमा ॥
किं नु कृत्वा कृतं कार्यं भवेद् इति च विह्वला ॥
नापश्यत् स्वधिया मोक्षं स्वसुतानां तदानलात् ॥
एवं ब्रुवन्तीं शार्ङ्गास् ते प्रत्यूचुर् अथ मातरम् ॥

किं नु कृत्वा कृतं कार्यं भवेत् इति च विह्वलाkiṃ nu kṛtvā kṛtaṃ kāryaṃ bhavet iti ca vihvalāwhat deed, once done, would be right?" — [thus], bewildered,
न अपश्यत् स्वधिया मोक्षं स्वसुतानां तदा अनलात्na apaśyat svadhiyā mokṣaṃ svasutānāṃ tadā analātshe saw no deliverance for her sons from the fire by her own wit;

Here the mother's bewildered mind finds no way out. It is telling that Jarita "sees no deliverance by her own wit": passion, like grief, clouds the reason. Thus it is revealed that in confusion a sober voice is needed — and it will sound from the mouths of the children themselves. Thus the scripture reveals the powerlessness of a bewildered mind; and wisdom will come from where it was not expected — from the fledglings.
