युधिष्ठिर उवाच
उक्तं त्वया बुद्धिमता यन् नान्यो वक्तुम् अर्हति ॥
संशयानां हि निर्मोक्ता त्वन् नान्यो विद्यते भुवि ॥
गृहे गृहे हि राजानः स्वस्य स्वस्य प्रियंकराः ॥
न च साम्राज्यम् आप्तास् ते सम्राट्शब्दो हि कृत्स्नभाक् ॥

gṛhe gṛhe hi rājānaḥ svasya svasya priyaṃkarāḥ ||
na ca sāmrājyam āptās te samrāṭśabdo hi kṛtsnabhāk ||

उक्तम् त्वया बुद्धिमताuktam tvayā buddhimatāspoken by you, the wise one,
यत् न अन्यः वक्तुम् अर्हतिyat na anyaḥ vaktum arhatithat another is not capable of saying;
संशयानाम् हि निर्मोक्ताsaṃśayānām hi nirmoktāfor a resolver of doubts
त्वत् न अन्यः विद्यते भुविtvat na anyaḥ vidyate bhuviother than you, there is none on earth;
गृहे गृहे हि राजानःgṛhe gṛhe hi rājānaḥin every house [there are] kings,
स्वस्य स्वस्य प्रियंकराःsvasya svasya priyaṃkarāḥeach — a benefactor of his own,
न च साम्राज्यम् आप्ताः तेna ca sāmrājyam āptāḥ tebut sovereignty they have not attained;
सम्राट्-शब्दः हि कृत्स्न-भाक्samrāṭ-śabdaḥ hi kṛtsna-bhākfor the word "sovereign" [applies only to one who is] all-encompassing;

अनुवाद

Yudhishthira said: "Spoken by you, the wise one, is [that] which another is not capable of saying; for there is no resolver of doubts on earth other than you. In every house there are kings, each a benefactor of his own, but they have not attained sovereignty; for the word 'sovereign' [befits] only one who is all-encompassing."
