त्वादृशो धर्मयुक्तो हि कुर्वाणः प्रियकाम्यया ॥
भवत्य् अभ्यधिकं भीष्मो लोकेष्व् अवमतः सताम् ॥
कथं ह्य् अराजा दाशार्हो मध्ये सर्वमहीक्षिताम् ॥
अर्हणाम् अर्हति तथा यथा युष्माभिर् अर्चितः ॥
अथ वा मन्यसे कृष्णं स्थविरं भरतर्षभ ॥
वसुदेवे स्थिते वृद्धे कथम् अर्हति तत्सुतः ॥

bhavaty abhyadhikaṃ bhīṣmo lokeṣv avamataḥ satām ||

arhaṇām arhati tathā yathā yuṣmābhir arcitaḥ ||
atha vā manyase kṛṣṇaṃ sthaviraṃ bharatarṣabha ||
vasudeve sthite vṛddhe katham arhati tatsutaḥ ||

भवत्य् अभ्यधिकं भीष्मोbhavaty abhyadhikaṃ bhīṣmobecomes, O Bhishma, exceedingly
लोकेष्व् अवमतः सताम्lokeṣv avamataḥ satāmdespised among the good in the worlds;
कथं ह्य् अराजा दाशार्होkathaṃ hy arājā dāśārhohow, then, is the non-king Dasharha
मध्ये सर्व-मही-क्षिताम्madhye sarva-mahī-kṣitāmamid all the lords of the earth
अर्हणाम् अर्हति तथाarhaṇām arhati tathāworthy of the honor as
यथा युष्माभिर् अर्चितःyathā yuṣmābhir arcitaḥhe has been honored by you?
अथ वा मन्यसे कृष्णंatha vā manyase kṛṣṇaṃor if you consider Krishna
स्थविरं भरतर्षभsthaviraṃ bharatarṣabhathe elder, O bull of the Bharatas —
वसुदेवे स्थिते वृद्धेvasudeve sthite vṛddhewhen Vasudeva the elder is here,
कथम् अर्हति तत्-सुतःkatham arhati tat-sutaḥhow is his son worthy?»

अनुवाद

"For one like you, [falsely] devoted to dharma, acting out of a desire to please, becomes, O Bhishma, exceedingly despised among the good in [these] worlds. How, then, is the non-king Dasharha worthy, amid all the lords of the earth, of the honor with which you have honored him? And if you consider Krishna the elder, O bull of the Bharatas — then, when his elder father Vasudeva is here, how is his son worthy [of it]?"
