एवम् उक्तस् तु धौम्येन तत् कालसदृशं वचः ॥
धर्मराजो विशुद्धात्मा तप आतिष्ठद् उत्तमम् ॥
पुष्पोपहारैर् बलिभिर् अर्चयित्वा दिवाकरम् ॥
योगम् आस्थाय धर्मात्मा वायुभक्षो जितेन्द्रियः ॥
गाङ्गेयं वार्य् उपस्पृष्य प्राणायामेन तस्थिवान् ॥
जनमेजय उवाच
कथं कुरूणाम् ऋषभः स तु राजा युधिष्ठिरः ॥
विप्रार्थम् आराधितवान् सूर्यम् अद्भुतविक्रमम् ॥
वैशंपायन उवाच
शृणुष्वावहितो राजञ् शुचिर् भूत्वा समाहितः ॥
क्षणं च कुरु राजेन्द्र सर्वं वक्ष्याम्य् अशेषतः ॥
धौम्येन तु यथ प्रोक्तं पार्थाय सुमहात्मने ॥
नाम्नाम् अष्टशतं पुण्यं तच् छृणुष्व महामते ॥

kṣaṇaṃ ca kuru rājendra sarvaṃ vakṣyāmy aśeṣataḥ ||
dhaumyena tu yatha proktaṃ pārthāya sumahātmane ||
nāmnām aṣṭaśataṃ puṇyaṃ tac chṛṇuṣva mahāmate ||

विप्रार्थम् आराधितवान्viprārtham ārādhitavānworship for the sake of the brahmins
सूर्यम् अद्भुतविक्रमम्sūryam adbhutavikramamthe Sun of wondrous might

क्षणं च कुरु राजेन्द्रkṣaṇaṃ ca kuru rājendraand give a moment, O lord of kings
सर्वं वक्ष्यामि अशेषतःsarvaṃ vakṣyāmi aśeṣataḥI will tell everything in full

अनुवाद

Having received these words from Dhaumya, so fitting for the time, the pure-souled Dharmaraja took up the highest austerity. With flower offerings and gifts he worshipped Divakara; taking up yoga, feeding on air and having conquered his senses, this soul of dharma touched the waters of the Ganga and stood in breath-control. Janamejaya asked: 'How did that bull among the Kurus, King Yudhishthira, worship the Sun of wondrous might for the sake of the brahmins?' Vaishampayana answered: 'Listen attentively, O king, having become pure and composed. Give this a moment, and I will tell you everything in full. Listen to the sacred hundred and eight names that Dhaumya spoke to the great-souled son of Pritha.'
