Brihadashva said: "In the evening, people reported to King Bhima that Rituparna, true in valor, had arrived in Vidarbha. At Bhima's word, he entered the city of Kundina, filling all ten directions with the rumble of his chariot. Nala's horses heard this sound and rejoiced, as they had before in Nala's presence. Damayanti too heard that deep rumble of Nala's chariot, like the thunder of a cloud in the rainy season. Both she and the horses judged the sound to be just as it had been before, when Nala held the reins. The peacocks on the palace roofs, the elephants in their stalls, and the horses heard it; lifting their heads, they cried out as though at the sight of a rising thundercloud."

The sound of the chariot becomes the first recognizable sign. Where the form is hidden, faithful memory still hears the hand of the beloved.
