वैशंपायन उवाच
एवं संभाषमाणे तु धौम्ये कौरवनन्दन ॥
लोमशः सुमहातेजा ऋषिस् तत्राजगाम ह ॥
तं पाण्डवाग्रजो राजा सगणो ब्राह्मणाश् च ते ॥
उदतिष्ठन् महाभागं दिवि शक्रम् इवामराः ॥
तम् अभ्यर्च्य यथान्यायं धर्मराजो युधिष्ठिरः ॥
पप्रच्छागमने हेतुम् अटने च प्रयोजनम् ॥
स पृष्टः पाण्डुपुत्रेण प्रीयमाणो महामनाः ॥
उवाच श्लक्ष्णया वाचा हर्षयन्न् इव पाण्डवान् ॥
संचरन्न् अस्मि कौन्तेय सर्वलोकान् यदृच्छया ॥
गतः शक्रस्य सदनं तत्रापश्यं सुरेश्वरम् ॥
तव च भ्रातरं वीरम् अपश्यं सव्यसाचिनम् ॥
शक्रस्यार्धासनगतं तत्र मे विस्मयो महान् ॥
आसीत् पुरुषशार्दूल दृष्ट्वा पार्थं तथागतम् ॥
आह मां तत्र देवेशो गच्छ पाण्डुसुतान् इति ॥
सो ऽहम् अभ्यागतः क्षिप्रं दिदृक्षुस् त्वां सहानुजम् ॥
वचनात् पुरुहूतस्य पार्थस्य च महात्मनः ॥
आख्यास्ये ते प्रियं तात महत् पाण्डवनन्दन ॥

āha māṃ tatra deveśo gaccha pāṇḍusutān iti ||
so 'ham abhyāgataḥ kṣipraṃ didṛkṣus tvāṃ sahānujam ||
vacanāt puruhūtasya pārthasya ca mahātmanaḥ ||

अनुवाद

Vaiśampāyana said: "While Dhaumya was speaking thus, O joy of the Kurus, the great sage Lomaśa, blazing with splendor, arrived there. The eldest of the Pāṇḍavas, the king, together with his companions and the brahmins, rose to greet that great being, as the immortals rise before Śakra in heaven. Having honored him as was fitting, Yudhiṣṭhira asked the reason for his coming and for his wandering. Questioned by the son of Pāṇḍu, the great-souled Lomaśa, pleased, spoke in a gentle voice, as if gladdening the Pāṇḍavas: 'I have been wandering through all the worlds at will, O son of Kuntī, and I came to the abode of Śakra; there I saw the lord of the gods. And I saw your brother too, the hero Savyasācin, seated on half of Śakra's own seat, and I was greatly astonished, O tiger among men, to see Pārtha in such a position. There the lord of the gods said to me: "Go to the sons of Pāṇḍu." So I have come quickly, wishing to see you together with your younger brothers. By the word of Puruhūta and of the great-souled Pārtha, I shall tell you great and joyful news, dear one, O joy of the Pāṇḍavas.'"

भाष्य

The arrival of Lomaśa answers Yudhiṣṭhira's anxiety not with argument but with testimony: Arjuna has been received into the heavenly assembly. Hope is given a concrete sign.
