"Listen together with your brothers and with Kṛṣṇā. That mighty-armed Pārtha whom you sent for weapons has obtained from Rudra an incomparable, great weapon, called Brahmaśiras, attained through austerity. This fearsome weapon, arisen from the nectar of immortality, Savyasācin received together with its mantra, its means of withdrawal, its expiation, and its blessing. Moreover, Pārtha of matchless valor has learned the divine weapons — the vajra and others — from Yama, Kubera, Varuṇa, and Indra. From the son of Viśvāvasu he has duly received the knowledge of song, dance, sāman chant, and music. Thus, having gained his weapons, Bībhatsu, the younger brother of your younger brother, dwells there happily, having also attained the Gandharva lore. Now hear for what purpose the best of the gods spoke these words to me: 'When you go to the world of men, tell Yudhiṣṭhira on my behalf: your brother Arjuna, his weapons mastered, will come to you soon, having accomplished a great task for the gods which the very dwellers of heaven were unable to accomplish. As for you, join yourself, together with your brothers, to austerity — for there is nothing higher than austerity; through austerity one obtains what is great. And I know Karṇa as he truly is, O bull of the Bharatas: in battle he is not worth a sixteenth part of Pārtha. As for the fear of him lodged in your mind, O subduer of foes, I shall dispel it too, once Savyasācin has returned here. And as for what you have in mind, O hero, regarding this pilgrimage to the sacred fords, Lomaśa here will tell you all of it without doubt. And whatever fruit of austerity is to be found in the tīrthas, O Bhārata, whatever this great sage may tell you, trust it without question.'"

The message binds together two threads: Arjuna is receiving weapons, while Yudhiṣṭhira is to receive austerity. The Pāṇḍavas' victory is being prepared not by strength of arms alone, but by the purification of the heart.
