ततो बहुतिथे काले लोपामुद्रां विशां पते ॥
तपसा द्योतितां स्नातां ददर्श भगवान् ऋषिः ॥
स तस्याः परिचारेण शौचेन च दमेन च ॥
श्रिया रूपेण च प्रीतो मैथुनायाजुहाव ताम् ॥
ततः सा प्राञ्जलिर् भूत्वा लज्जमानेव भामिनी ॥
तदा सप्रणयं वाक्यं भगवन्तम् अथाब्रवीत् ॥
असंशयं प्रजाहेतोर् भार्यां पतिर् अविन्दत ॥
या तु त्वयि मम प्रीतिस् ताम् ऋषे कर्तुम् अर्हसि ॥
यथा पितुर् गृहे विप्र प्रासादे शयनं मम ॥
तथाविधे त्वं शयने माम् उपैतुम् इहार्हसि ॥
इच्छामि त्वां स्रग्विणं च भूषणैश् च विभूषितम् ॥
उपसर्तुं यथाकामं दिव्याभरणभूषिता ॥
अगस्त्य उवाच
न वै धनानि विद्यन्ते लोपामुद्रे तथा मम ॥
यथाविधानि कल्याणि पितुस् तव सुमध्यमे ॥
लोपामुद्रोवाच
ईशो ऽसि तपसा सर्वं समाहर्तुम् इहेश्वर ॥
क्षणेन जीवलोके यद् वसु किं चन विद्यते ॥
अगस्त्य उवाच
एवम् एतद् यथात्थ त्वं तपोव्ययकरं तु मे ॥
यथा तु मे न नश्येत तपस् तन् मां प्रचोदय ॥
लोपामुद्रोवाच
अल्पावशिष्टः कालो ऽयम् ऋतौ मम तपोधन ॥
न चान्यथाहम् इच्छामि त्वाम् उपैतुं कथं चन ॥
न चापि धर्मम् इच्छामि विलोप्तुं ते तपोधन ॥
एतत् तु मे यथाकामं संपादयितुम् अर्हसि ॥
अगस्त्य उवाच
यद्य् एष कामः सुभगे तव बुद्ध्या विनिश्चितः ॥
हन्त गच्छाम्य् अहं भद्रे चर कामम् इह स्थिता ॥
tato bahutithe kāle lopāmudrāṃ viśāṃ pate ||
tapasā dyotitāṃ snātāṃ dadarśa bhagavān ṛṣiḥ ||
sa tasyāḥ paricāreṇa śaucena ca damena ca ||
śriyā rūpeṇa ca prīto maithunāyājuhāva tām ||
tataḥ sā prāñjalir bhūtvā lajjamāneva bhāminī ||
tadā sapraṇayaṃ vākyaṃ bhagavantam athābravīt ||
asaṃśayaṃ prajāhetor bhāryāṃ patir avindata ||
yā tu tvayi mama prītis tām ṛṣe kartum arhasi ||
yathā pitur gṛhe vipra prāsāde śayanaṃ mama ||
tathāvidhe tvaṃ śayane mām upaitum ihārhasi ||
icchāmi tvāṃ sragviṇaṃ ca bhūṣaṇaiś ca vibhūṣitam ||
upasartuṃ yathākāmaṃ divyābharaṇabhūṣitā ||
agastya uvāca
na vai dhanāni vidyante lopāmudre tathā mama ||
yathāvidhāni kalyāṇi pitus tava sumadhyame ||
lopāmudrovāca
īśo 'si tapasā sarvaṃ samāhartum iheśvara ||
kṣaṇena jīvaloke yad vasu kiṃ cana vidyate ||
agastya uvāca
evam etad yathāttha tvaṃ tapovyayakaraṃ tu me ||
yathā tu me na naśyeta tapas tan māṃ pracodaya ||
lopāmudrovāca
alpāvaśiṣṭaḥ kālo 'yam ṛtau mama tapodhana ||
na cānyathāham icchāmi tvām upaituṃ kathaṃ cana ||
na cāpi dharmam icchāmi viloptuṃ te tapodhana ||
etat tu me yathākāmaṃ saṃpādayitum arhasi ||
agastya uvāca
yady eṣa kāmaḥ subhage tava buddhyā viniścitaḥ ||
hanta gacchāmy ahaṃ bhadre cara kāmam iha sthitā ||
After a long time the blessed seer saw Lopamudra, bathed and radiant with austerity. Pleased by her service, purity, self-restraint, beauty, and radiance, he called her to the union of marriage. Then the lovely woman, joining her palms and as though bashful, said with love to the blessed one: "Without doubt, a husband takes a wife for the sake of offspring. But you must fulfill the love that I bear for you, O seer. As in my father's house I had a bed in the palace, so on such a bed you must come to me here. I wish to come to you as I desire, adorned with divine ornaments, and to see you garlanded and adorned with jewels." Agastya said: "Lopamudra, fair one, I do not have such riches as your father had." Lopamudra replied: "Lord, by the power of austerity you are able to gather in an instant all the wealth that exists in the world of the living." Agastya said: "It is just as you say, but this would exhaust my austerity. Urge me toward a way that my austerity may not perish." Lopamudra said: "Little time remains to me in this season, O rich in austerity, and I do not wish to come to you in any other way. Yet I do not wish to destroy your dharma either, O rich in austerity. Fulfill this desire of mine as is fitting." Agastya said: "If this desire is settled in your mind, fortunate one, then well — I shall go. Remain here and live as you wish."
