अनुवाद

Lomasha said: "Then Agastya went to ask King Shrutarvan for wealth, he who was said to surpass other kings in knowledge of the Vedas. Learning of this, the ruler went out with his ministers to the border of his realm and received Kumbhayoni with great honor. Bringing him the guest-offering as was proper, the king, joining his palms and composing himself, asked the purpose of his coming. Agastya said: 'Know, lord of the earth, that I have come seeking wealth. According to your means, give me a share, without harming others.' Then the king showed him the full accounting of income and expenditure and said: 'From this, O wise one, take whatever wealth you think fit.' But the twice-born, seeing with an even mind that income and expenditure were equal, judged that any withdrawal would in every way harm living beings. Taking Shrutarvan with him, he then went to Vadhryashva. That king received them at the border of his realm as is proper, offered them the guest-gift and water for the feet, and, having asked leave, inquired their purpose at the outset. Agastya said: 'Know, lord of the earth, that we two have come here desiring wealth. According to your means, give us a share, without harming others.' Lomasha said: Then the king showed them the full accounting of income and expenditure, and told them to take whatever surplus remained there. But seeing that income and expenditure were equal, the twice-born, with even mind, again judged that any withdrawal would in every way harm living beings."
