Having seen various terrible omens, the seers, deeply troubled, performed rites of appeasement for the sake of the worlds. The dwellers of the Chaitraratha forest said, 'This great calamity was brought by Pavaka, having united with the six wives of the seven seers.' Others, who had seen the goddess in the form of Garudi, said, 'This calamity was brought by you.' But no one knew that the deed had been done by Svaha. Suparni, hearing these words, approached Skanda and said, 'This is my son; I am your mother.' Hearing that a son of great power had been born, the seven seers abandoned six of their wives, all except the goddess Arundhati. People said that he had been born of the six; Svaha, again and again, told the seven seers, 'This is my son, I know that it did not happen as you think,' but they did not believe her. Vishvamitra, having performed the ishti rite, had followed Agni unseen — Agni, who was consumed by desire — and thus learned the whole truth of what had occurred. He was the first to take refuge in Kumara, composed a divine hymn to Mahasena, performed all thirteen kaumara rites beginning with the jata-karma, and, for the good of the world, established the greatness of the six-faced one, of the cock, of the shakti, and of the attendants. For this Vishvamitra became dear to Kumara. He acknowledged the change of Svaha's forms and told all the sages, 'The women are not at fault.' But having heard the truth, they nonetheless abandoned their wives completely.

Even once the truth comes to light, public suspicion has already done its wound. The narrative firmly affirms the innocence of the seers' wives and the special purity of Arundhati.
