तथेत्य् उक्त्वा तु ते सर्वे जग्मुर् आवसथान् प्रति ॥
व्युषितायां रजन्यां तु कर्णो राजानम् अभ्ययात् ॥
ततो दुर्योधनं कर्णः प्रहसन्न् इदम् अब्रवीत् ॥
उपायः परिदृष्टो ऽयं तं निबोध जनेश्वर ॥
घोषा द्वैतवने सर्वे त्वत्प्रतीक्षा नराधिप ॥
घोषयात्रापदेशेन गमिष्यामो न संशयः ॥
उचितं हि सदा गन्तुं घोषयात्रां विशां पते ॥
एवं च त्वां पिता राजन् समनुज्ञातुम् अर्हति ॥
तथा कथयमानौ तौ घोषयात्राविनिश्चयम् ॥
गान्धारराजः शकुनिः प्रत्युवाच हसन्न् इव ॥
उपायो ऽयं मया दृष्टो गमनाय निरामयः ॥
अनुज्ञास्यति नो राजा चोदयिष्यति चाप्य् उत ॥
घोषा द्वैतवने सर्वे त्वत्प्रतीक्षा नराधिप ॥
घोषयात्रापदेशेन गमिष्यामो न संशयः ॥
ततः प्रहसिताः सर्वे ते ऽन्योन्यस्य तलान् ददुः ॥
तद् एव च विनिश्चित्य ददृशुः कुरुसत्तमम् ॥

tataḥ prahasitāḥ sarve te 'nyonyasya talān daduḥ ||
tad eva ca viniścitya dadṛśuḥ kurusattamam ||

अनुवाद

They replied, "So be it," and all went back to their dwellings. When the night had passed, Karna came to the king and, laughing, said to Duryodhana: "A means has been found; hear it, lord of men. All the herdsmen's camps in Dvaitavana are waiting for you, O king; under the pretext of a ghosha-yatra we shall go there without doubt. For it is always fitting for a king to go to the herds, and so your father ought to permit you." As the two of them were thus discussing the decision about the ghosha-yatra, Shakuni, king of Gandhara, said, as though laughing: "This is the means I have found for a harmless journey. The king will permit us, and will even urge us on. All the herdsmen's camps in Dvaitavana are waiting for you, lord of men; under the pretext of a ghosha-yatra we shall go there without doubt." Then they all laughed, clapped each other's palms, and, having settled on just this, went to the best of the Kurus.

भाष्य

The pretext of the cattle herds is outwardly lawful, but inwardly false. Thus adharma often comes disguised as an ordinary matter of royal business.
