वैशंपायन उवाच
धृतराष्ट्रं ततः सर्वे ददृशुर् जनमेजय ॥
पृष्ट्वा सुखम् अथो राज्ञः पृष्ट्वा राज्ञा च भारत ॥
ततस् तैर् विहितः पूर्वं समङ्गो नाम बल्लवः ॥
समीपस्थास् तदा गावो धृतराष्ट्रे न्यवेदयत् ॥
अनन्तरं च राधेयः शकुनिश् च विशां पते ॥
आहतुः पार्थिवश्रेष्ठं धृतराष्ट्रं जनाधिपम् ॥
रमणीयेषु देशेषु घोषाः संप्रति कौरव ॥
स्मारणासमयः प्राप्तो वत्सानाम् अपि चाङ्कनम् ॥
मृगया चोचिता राजन्न् अस्मिन् काले सुतस्य ते ॥
दुर्योधनस्य गमनं त्वम् अनुज्ञातुम् अर्हसि ॥

अनुवाद

Vaishampayana said: "Then all of them came before Dhritarashtra, O Janamejaya. Having asked after the king's welfare and been asked after their own in turn, they set about their business. A cowherd named Samanga, whom they had prepared beforehand, standing nearby, informed Dhritarashtra about the cattle. Then Radheya and Shakuni said to the best of kings, Dhritarashtra: 'O Kaurava, the cow-stations are now in beautiful places. The time has come for the counting and branding of the calves. And a hunt, O king, is fitting for your son at this time. You should give Duryodhana leave to go.'"

भाष्य

The scheme is staged from the very start: a prepared cowherd, a convenient pretext, the right words. Outward plausibility conceals an inner poison.
