Vaishampayana said: "Then all of them together came to Duryodhana and told him, great king, what had been said to the Kaurava. When the army had been halted by the Gandharvas, the mighty son of Dhritarashtra, filled with indignation, addressed the troops: 'Punish these men who do not know dharma and do what displeases me, even if Shatakratu himself is playing there together with all the gods.' Hearing Duryodhana's words, all the mighty sons of Dhritarashtra and thousands of warriors armed themselves. Then, crushing the Gandharvas, they forced their way into that forest, filling the ten directions with a great lion's roar. Then other Gandharvas again stopped the warriors of Kuru, and did so with peaceful words, O lord of the earth. But they, showing no respect to the Gandharvas, entered the great forest. When the sons of Dhritarashtra together with their king would not be stopped by words, all the sky-wanderers reported this to Chitrasena. Chitrasena, king of the Gandharvas, greatly enraged, said of the Kauravas: 'Punish these non-Aryans.' With Chitrasena's permission, all the armed Gandharvas rushed upon the sons of Dhritarashtra. Seeing these swift Gandharvas with weapons raised, all the Kauravas fled the battle before the eyes of the son of Dhritarashtra."

Duryodhana answers a warning with force and at once reveals the emptiness of his pride: his army flees from the very ones he wished to humiliate.
