अन्यथा वर्तमानानाम् अर्थो जातो ऽयम् अन्यथा ॥
अस्माभिर् यद् अनुष्ठेयं गन्धर्वैस् तद् अनुष्ठितम् ॥
दुर्मन्त्रितम् इदं तात राज्ञो दुर्द्यूतदेविनः ॥
द्वेष्टारम् अन्ये क्लीबस्य पातयन्तीति नः श्रुतम् ॥
तद् इदं कृतं नः प्रत्यक्षं गन्धर्वैर् अतिमानुषम् ॥
दिष्ट्या लोके पुमान् अस्ति कश् चिद् अस्मत्प्रिये स्थितः ॥
येनास्माकं हृतो भार आसीनानां सुखावहः ॥
शीतवातातपसहांस् तपसा चैव कर्शितान् ॥
समस्थो विषमस्थान् हि द्रष्टुम् इच्छति दुर्मतिः ॥
अधर्मचारिणस् तस्य कौरव्यस्य दुरात्मनः ॥
ये शीलम् अनुवर्तन्ते ते पश्यन्ति पराभवम् ॥
अधर्मो हि कृतस् तेन येनैतद् उपशिक्षितम् ॥
अनृशंसास् तु कौन्तेयास् तस्याध्यक्षान् ब्रवीमि वः ॥
एवं ब्रुवाणं कौन्तेयं भीमसेनम् अमर्षणम् ॥
न कालः परुषस्यायम् इति राजाभ्यभाषत ॥

अनुवाद

Bhimasena said: "For those who acted otherwise, the matter has now turned out otherwise. What we ourselves ought to have done, the Gandharvas have done. This is the fruit of the evil counsel of a king given to dicing. We have heard it said that others cast down the enemy of a coward. Now this superhuman deed of the Gandharvas has been done before our very eyes. It is fortunate that there is in this world someone who stands by what we hold dear: he has lifted the burden from us, and we, sitting here, are made easy at heart. This evil-minded one wished to see us enduring cold, wind and sun, worn down by austerity, while he himself stood at ease and we in hardship. Whoever follows the ways of this evil Kaurava, who walks in adharma, sees only defeat. Adharma has been done by him who taught this. Yet the sons of Kunti are merciful; I say this to you, his overseers." As Bhimasena, son of Kunti, spoke thus in his impatience, the king said to him: "This is not the time for harsh words."

भाष्य

Bhima sees only the just fruit of deeds, but Yudhishthira sees also the duty owed to kin. Dharma stands higher than personal satisfaction, even before the deserved fall of an enemy.
