अर्जुन उवाच
नरदेव कथं कर्म राष्ट्रे तस्य करिष्यसि ॥
विराटनृपतेः साधो रंस्यसे केन कर्मणा ॥
मृदुर् वदान्यो ह्रीमांश् च धार्मिकः सत्यविक्रमः ॥
राजंस् त्वम् आपदा क्लिष्टः किं करिष्यसि पाण्डव ॥
न दुःखम् उचितं किं चिद् राजन् वेद यथा जनः ॥
स इमाम् आपदं प्राप्य कथं घोरां तरिष्यसि ॥
arjuna uvāca
naradeva kathaṃ karma rāṣṭre tasya kariṣyasi ||
virāṭanṛpateḥ sādho raṃsyase kena karmaṇā ||
mṛdur vadānyo hrīmāṃś ca dhārmikaḥ satyavikramaḥ ||
rājaṃs tvam āpadā kliṣṭaḥ kiṃ kariṣyasi pāṇḍava ||
na duḥkham ucitaṃ kiṃ cid rājan veda yathā janaḥ ||
sa imām āpadaṃ prāpya kathaṃ ghorāṃ tariṣyasi ||
Arjuna asked: "King of men, what task will you perform in his country? By what work will you live at king Virata's, righteous one? You are gentle, generous, modest, devoted to dharma, and truthful in your valor. People know, O king, that you are unaccustomed to any suffering. How then, Pandava, will you pass through this terrible calamity?"
