They are ill-disposed toward others, they raise obstacles on the path of virtuous deeds, they demean, they lie in speech, they are given to lust, anger, dependence, they speak ill of others, they seek out the faults of others so as to report them, they squander wealth, they quarrel, they are insolent, cruel to living beings, malicious, ignorant, contemptuous of those worthy of respect, they lose the sense of right and wrong, and they always seek to harm others. Therefore the wise man should not yield to mada, for keeping company with mada is blameworthy. It is said that friendship has six marks: first, friends rejoice in a friend's prosperity, and second, they grieve at his misfortunes. If someone should ask for something dear to his heart, even something that ought not to be asked for, a true friend will surely give even that.
