यः सहस्रं सहस्राणां पक्षान् संतत्य संपतेत् ॥
मध्यमे मध्य आगच्छेद् अपि चेत् स्यान् मनोजवः ॥
योगिनस् तं प्रपश्यन्ति भगवन्तं सनातनम् ॥
न दर्शने तिष्ठति रूपम् अस्य; पश्यन्ति चैनं सुविशुद्धसत्त्वाः ॥
हितो मनीषी मनसाभिपश्येद्; ये तं श्रयेयुर् अमृतास् ते भवन्ति ॥
योगिनस् तं प्रपश्यन्ति भगवन्तं सनातनम् ॥
गूहन्ति सर्पा इव गह्वराणि; स्वशिक्षया स्वेन वृत्तेन मर्त्याः ॥
तेषु प्रमुह्यन्ति जना विमूढा; यथाध्वानं मोहयन्ते भयाय ॥
योगिनस् तं प्रपश्यन्ति भगवन्तं सनातनम् ॥
सदा सदासत्कृतः स्यान् न मृत्युर् अमृतं कुतः ॥
सत्यानृते सत्यसमानबन्धने; सतश् च योनिर् असतश् चैक एव ॥
योगिनस् तं प्रपश्यन्ति भगवन्तं सनातनम् ॥
न साधुना नोत असाधुना वा; समानम् एतद् दृश्यते मानुषेषु ॥
समानम् एतद् अमृतस्य विद्याद्; एवंयुक्तो मधु तद् वै परीप्सेत् ॥
योगिनस् तं प्रपश्यन्ति भगवन्तं सनातनम् ॥

satyānṛte satyasamānabandhane; sataś ca yonir asataś caika eva ||

na sādhunā nota asādhunā vā; samānam etad dṛśyate mānuṣeṣu ||
samānam etad amṛtasya vidyād; evaṃyukto madhu tad vai parīpset ||
yoginas taṃ prapaśyanti bhagavantaṃ sanātanam ||
Fourth, a true friend of righteous character, when asked, may give up even his own well-being, his beloved sons, and even his own wife. Fifth, a friend ought not to live in the house of a friend to whom he may have given everything, but should live on what he earns himself. Sixth, a friend does not fail to sacrifice his own good for his friend's sake. A wealthy man who strives to acquire these good qualities and becomes merciful and righteous restrains his five senses from their respective objects. Such restraint of the senses is asceticism. As it grows in degree, it becomes able to win regions of bliss in the life to come (unlike knowledge, which leads to success even here). Those who have lost patience (and are therefore unable to attain Knowledge) acquire such asceticism for the sake of the goal they pursue, namely —
