तदाचचक्षे पुरुषः सभायां राजसंसदि ॥
संजयो ऽयं महाराज मूर्च्छितः पतितो भुवि ॥
वाचं न सृजते कां चिद् धीनप्रज्ञो ऽल्पचेतनः ॥
धृतराष्ट्र उवाच
अपश्यत् संजयो नूनं कुन्तीपुत्रान् महारथान् ॥
तैर् अस्य पुरुषव्याघ्रैर् भृशम् उद्वेजितं मनः ॥
वैशंपायन उवाच
संजयश् चेतनां लब्ध्वा प्रत्याश्वस्येदम् अब्रवीत् ॥
धृतराष्ट्रं महाराज सभायां कुरुसंसदि ॥
दृष्टवान् अस्मि राजेन्द्र कुन्तीपुत्रान् महारथान् ॥
मत्स्यराजगृहावासाद् अवरोधेन कर्शितान् ॥
शृणु यैर् हि महाराज पाण्डवा अभ्ययुञ्जत ॥
यो नैव रोषान् न भयान् न कामान् नार्थकारणात् ॥
न हेतुवादाद् धर्मात्मा सत्यं जह्यात् कथं चन ॥
tadācacakṣe puruṣaḥ sabhāyāṃ rājasaṃsadi ||
saṃjayo 'yaṃ mahārāja mūrcchitaḥ patito bhuvi ||
vācaṃ na sṛjate kāṃ cid dhīnaprajño 'lpacetanaḥ ||

apaśyat saṃjayo nūnaṃ kuntīputrān mahārathān ||
tair asya puruṣavyāghrair bhṛśam udvejitaṃ manaḥ ||
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
saṃjayaś cetanāṃ labdhvā pratyāśvasyedam abravīt ||
dhṛtarāṣṭraṃ mahārāja sabhāyāṃ kurusaṃsadi ||
dṛṣṭavān asmi rājendra kuntīputrān mahārathān ||
matsyarājagṛhāvāsād avarodhena karśitān ||
śṛṇu yair hi mahārāja pāṇḍavā abhyayuñjata ||
yo naiva roṣān na bhayān na kāmān nārthakāraṇāt ||
na hetuvādād dharmātmā satyaṃ jahyāt kathaṃ cana ||
And Indra asked this illustrious pair to grant him a boon. Receiving such a request, O best of the Bharata race, the two said: 'Name the boon.' To this Shakra said to them: 'Give us your aid.' Then they said to Shakra: 'We shall do as you wish.' And it was with their help that Shakra afterward defeated the Daityas and Danavas. Nara, the chastiser of foes, slew in battle hundreds and thousands of Indra's enemies among the Paulomas and Kalakhanjas. It was this same Arjuna who, riding upon his whirling chariot, cut off in battle with a broad-headed arrow the head of the Asura Jambha, as he was about to swallow him. It was he who wrought destruction upon Hiranyapura, the city of the Daityas, on the far shore of the ocean, defeating in battle sixty thousand Nivatakavachas.
