संजय उवाच
एवम् एतन् महाराज यथा वदसि भारत ॥
युद्धे विनाशः क्षत्रस्य गाण्डीवेन प्रदृश्यते ॥
इदं तु नाभिजानामि तव धीरस्य नित्यशः ॥
यत् पुत्रवशम् आगच्छेः सत्त्वज्ञः सव्यसाचिनः ॥
नैष कालो महाराज तव शश्वत् कृतागसः ॥
त्वया ह्य् एवादितः पार्था निकृता भरतर्षभ ॥
पिता श्रेष्ठः सुहृद् यश् च सम्यक् प्रणिहितात्मवान् ॥
आस्थेयं हि हितं तेन न द्रोग्धा गुरुर् उच्यते ॥
इदं जितम् इदं लब्धम् इति श्रुत्वा पराजितान् ॥
द्यूतकाले महाराज स्मयसे स्म कुमारवत् ॥

idaṃ tu nābhijānāmi tava dhīrasya nityaśaḥ ||

naiṣa kālo mahārāja tava śaśvat kṛtāgasaḥ ||
tvayā hy evāditaḥ pārthā nikṛtā bharatarṣabha ||
pitā śreṣṭhaḥ suhṛd yaś ca samyak praṇihitātmavān ||
āstheyaṃ hi hitaṃ tena na drogdhā gurur ucyate ||
idaṃ jitam idaṃ labdham iti śrutvā parājitān ||
dyūtakāle mahārāja smayase sma kumāravat ||
Dhritarashtra said: 'Possessed of great valor and thirsting for victory, the sons of Pandu themselves are matched by their followers, all of whom are resolved to lay down their lives and are determined to win. Even you, my son, have told me of my mighty enemies—namely, the kings of the Panchalas, the Kekayas, the Matsyas, and the Magadhas. And he who, by his own will, could subdue all three worlds together with Indra at their head—that very Creator of the universe, the mighty Krishna—strives to bring victory to the Pandavas. As for Satyaki, he mastered the whole science of arms from Arjuna in the shortest time, and this scion of the Sini race will stand on the battlefield, loosing his arrows like farmers sowing seed.'
