वैशंपायन उवाच
संजयस्य वचः श्रुत्वा प्रज्ञाचक्षुर् नरेश्वरः ॥
ततः संख्यातुम् आरेभे तद् वचो गुणदोषतः ॥
प्रसंख्याय च सौक्ष्म्येण गुणदोषान् विचक्षणः ॥
यथावन् मतितत्त्वेन जयकामः सुतान् प्रति ॥
बलाबले विनिश्चित्य याथातथ्येन बुद्धिमान् ॥
शक्तिं संख्यातुम् आरेभे तदा वै मनुजाधिपः ॥
देवमानुषयोः शक्त्या तेजसा चैव पाण्डवान् ॥
कुरूञ् शक्त्याल्पतरया दुर्योधनम् अथाब्रवीत् ॥
दुर्योधनेयं चिन्ता मे शश्वन् नाप्य् उपशाम्यति ॥
सत्यं ह्य् एतद् अहं मन्ये प्रत्यक्षं नानुमानतः ॥
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
saṃjayasya vacaḥ śrutvā prajñācakṣur nareśvaraḥ ||
tataḥ saṃkhyātum ārebhe tad vaco guṇadoṣataḥ ||
prasaṃkhyāya ca saukṣmyeṇa guṇadoṣān vicakṣaṇaḥ ||
yathāvan matitattvena jayakāmaḥ sutān prati ||
balābale viniścitya yāthātathyena buddhimān ||
śaktiṃ saṃkhyātum ārebhe tadā vai manujādhipaḥ ||
devamānuṣayoḥ śaktyā tejasā caiva pāṇḍavān ||
kurūñ śaktyālpatarayā duryodhanam athābravīt ||
duryodhaneyaṃ cintā me śaśvan nāpy upaśāmyati ||
satyaṃ hy etad ahaṃ manye pratyakṣaṃ nānumānataḥ ||
Dhritarashtra said: ‘Tell me, O you of great wisdom, what the high-souled Vasudeva and Dhananjaya said. I am most eager to hear all of it from you.’ Sanjaya said: ‘Listen, O king, and I will tell you of the condition in which I found Krishna and Dhananjaya. I will also tell you, O Bharata, what these heroes said. O king, with downcast eyes and joined palms, with my senses well restrained, I entered the inner chambers to confer with these gods among men. Neither Abhimanyu nor the Twins may enter the place where the two Krishnas, Draupadi, and the lady Satyabhama are found. There I saw those chastisers of foes making merry with Bassia wine, their bodies adorned with garlands of flowers. Clad in excellent garments and decked with heavenly ornaments, they sat upon a golden dais studded with many jewels and spread with carpets of varied texture and hue. And I saw the feet of Keshava resting upon Arjuna’s lap, while the feet of the high-souled Arjuna rested upon the laps of Krishna and Satyabhama.’
