Vaishampayana said: "After Keshava had dined and refreshed himself, Vidura spoke to him that night: 'O Keshava, this arrival of yours has not been rightly valued, for, O Janardana, the son of Dhritarashtra transgresses the bounds of both profit and religion, is malicious and wrathful, insults others while himself craving honors, and does not submit to the commands of his elders. He, O Madhava, is a transgressor of scripture, ignorant and evil-souled, already seized by fate, unyielding, and inclined to do harm to those who seek his welfare.'"

This fragment (5.92.1-5) develops the central theme of the Udyoga-parva: the effort for peace is already underway against the backdrop of an inevitable war. Key themes: Krishna, Vidura. Here dharma is revealed through speech, the choice of embassy, faithfulness to promises, and the responsibility of kings for the consequences of their decisions.
