रथायुतानि चत्वारि हयाः पञ्चगुणास् ततः ॥
पत्तिसैन्यं दशगुणं सादिनाम् अयुतानि षट् ॥
अनाधृष्टिश् चेकितानश् चेदिराजो ऽथ सात्यकिः ॥
परिवार्य ययुः सर्वे वासुदेवधनंजयौ ॥
आसाद्य तु कुरुक्षेत्रं व्यूढानीकाः प्रहारिणः ॥
पाण्डवाः समदृश्यन्त नर्दन्तो वृषभा इव ॥
ते ऽवगाह्य कुरुक्षेत्रं शङ्खान् दध्मुर् अरिंदमाः ॥
तथैव दध्मतुः शङ्खौ वासुदेवधनंजयौ ॥
पाञ्चजन्यस्य निर्घोषं विस्फूर्जितम् इवाशनेः ॥
निशम्य सर्वसैन्यानि समहृष्यन्त सर्वशः ॥

te 'vagāhya kurukṣetraṃ śaṅkhān dadhmur ariṃdamāḥ ||
tathaiva dadhmatuḥ śaṅkhau vāsudevadhanaṃjayau ||
pāñcajanyasya nirghoṣaṃ visphūrjitam ivāśaneḥ ||
niśamya sarvasainyāni samahṛṣyanta sarvaśaḥ ||
There were forty thousand chariots; the horses numbered five times as many, the infantry ten times as many, and the horsemen sixty thousand. Anadhrishti, Chekitana, the king of Chedi, and Satyaki, all together surrounding Vasudeva and Dhananjaya, marched on. Having reached Kurukshetra, the Pandavas, with their battle-arrays drawn up and ready to strike, appeared like roaring bulls. Entering Kurukshetra, these subduers of foes blew their conches; likewise Vasudeva and Dhananjaya blew their two conches. Hearing the roar of the Panchajanya, like the peal of a thunderbolt, all the armies rejoiced everywhere.
