देवानां प्रतिपत्तिश् च सत्या साधुमता सदा ॥
सा तु दुःखार्णवं प्राप्य नः स्याद् अर्चयतां भृशम् ॥
दैवतानि च सर्वाणि पूज्यन्तां भूरिदक्षिणैः ॥
अग्नयश् चापि हूयन्तां दाशार्णप्रतिषेधने ॥
अयुद्धेन निवृत्तिं च मनसा चिन्तयाभिभो ॥
देवतानां प्रसादेन सर्वम् एतद् भविष्यति ॥
मन्त्रिभिर् मन्त्रितं सार्धं त्वया यत् पृथुलोचन ॥
पुरस्यास्याविनाशाय तच् च राजंस् तथा कुरु ॥
दैवं हि मानुषोपेतं भृशं सिध्यति पार्थिव ॥
परस्परविरोधात् तु नानयोः सिद्धिर् अस्ति वै ॥

'The favor of the gods, in the judgment of the wise, is always true. Let it not, then, become for us — who worship them devotedly — an ocean of sorrow. Let all the gods be honored with lavish gifts, and let the sacrificial fires be kindled to ward off the king of Dashārna. O lord, turn your mind toward a withdrawal without war: by the grace of the gods all this will be possible. Whatever you have deliberated with your counselors for the preservation of this city, O wide-eyed one, do exactly that, O king. The divine, joined with human effort, succeeds greatly, O lord of the earth; but where the two are at odds with each other, there is no success.'
