श्रीभगवान् उवाच
कुतस् त्वा कश्मलम् इदं विषमे समुपस्थितम् ॥
अनार्यजुष्टम् अस्वर्ग्यम् अकीर्तिकरम् अर्जुन ॥
क्लैब्यं मा स्म गमः पार्थ नैतत् त्वय्य् उपपद्यते ॥
क्षुद्रं हृदयदौर्बल्यं त्यक्त्वोत्तिष्ठ परंतप ॥

śrībhagavān uvāca
kutas tvā kaśmalam idaṃ viṣame samupasthitam ||
anāryajuṣṭam asvargyam akīrtikaram arjuna ||
klaibyaṃ mā sma gamaḥ pārtha naitat tvayy upapadyate ||
kṣudraṃ hṛdayadaurbalyaṃ tyaktvottiṣṭha paraṃtapa ||

शब्दशः अर्थ

श्रीभगवान् उवाचśrībhagavān uvācaShri Bhagavan said; the Blessed Lord spoke
कुतस् त्वा कश्मलम् इदंkutas tvā kaśmalam idaṃwhence has this defilement come upon you; whence has this delusion arisen in you
विषमे समुपस्थितम्viṣame samupasthitamit has come at this perilous hour; it has appeared at this difficult moment
अनार्यजुष्टम् अस्वर्ग्यम्anāryajuṣṭam asvargyamunworthy of the noble, not leading to heaven; ignoble, closing off svarga
अकीर्तिकरम् अर्जुनakīrtikaram arjunabringing disgrace, Arjuna; causing shame, Arjuna
क्लैब्यं मा स्म गमःklaibyaṃ mā sma gamaḥdo not give way to impotence; do not fall into faintheartedness
पार्थpārthason of Pritha; Arjuna
नैतत् त्वय्य् उपपद्यतेnaitat tvayy upapadyatethis does not become you; this is incompatible with you
क्षुद्रं हृदयदौर्बल्यंkṣudraṃ hṛdayadaurbalyaṃbase weakness of heart; petty feebleness of heart
त्यक्त्वोत्तिष्ठ परंतपtyaktvottiṣṭha paraṃtapacast it off and arise, scorcher of foes; throw it aside and rise
अनुवाद

Shri Bhagavan said: "Whence has this delusion come upon you at this perilous hour, O Arjuna? It is unworthy of the noble, does not lead to heaven, and brings disgrace. Do not give way to faintheartedness, son of Pritha: this does not become you. Cast off this base weakness of heart and arise, O scorcher of foes."
