तम् अब्रवीत् ततः पार्थः पार्षतं पृतनापतिम् ॥
व्यूहः क्रौञ्चारुणो नाम सर्वशत्रुनिबर्हणः ॥
यं बृहस्पतिर् इन्द्राय तदा देवासुरे ऽब्रवीत् ॥
तं यथावत् प्रतिव्यूह परानीकविनाशनम् ॥
अदृष्टपूर्वं राजानः पश्यन्तु कुरुभिः सह ॥
तथोक्तः स नृदेवेन विष्णुर् वज्रभृता इव ॥
प्रभाते सर्वसैन्यानाम् अग्रे चक्रे धनंजयम् ॥
आदित्यपथगः केतुस् तस्याद्भुतमनोरमः ॥
शासनात् पुरुहूतस्य निर्मितो विश्वकर्मणा ॥
इन्द्रायुधसवर्णाभिः पताकाभिर् अलंकृतः ॥
आकाशग इवाकाशे गन्धर्वनगरोपमः ॥
नृत्यमान इवाभाति रथचर्यासु मारिष ॥
तेन रत्नवता पार्थः स च गाण्डीवधन्वना ॥
बभूव परमोपेतः स्वयंभूर् इव भानुना ॥
tam abravīt tataḥ pārthaḥ pārṣataṃ pṛtanāpatim ||
vyūhaḥ krauñcāruṇo nāma sarvaśatrunibarhaṇaḥ ||
yaṃ bṛhaspatir indrāya tadā devāsure 'bravīt ||
taṃ yathāvat prativyūha parānīkavināśanam ||
adṛṣṭapūrvaṃ rājānaḥ paśyantu kurubhiḥ saha ||
tathoktaḥ sa nṛdevena viṣṇur vajrabhṛtā iva ||
prabhāte sarvasainyānām agre cakre dhanaṃjayam ||
ādityapathagaḥ ketus tasyādbhutamanoramaḥ ||
śāsanāt puruhūtasya nirmito viśvakarmaṇā ||
indrāyudhasavarṇābhiḥ patākābhir alaṃkṛtaḥ ||
ākāśaga ivākāśe gandharvanagaropamaḥ ||
nṛtyamāna ivābhāti rathacaryāsu māriṣa ||
tena ratnavatā pārthaḥ sa ca gāṇḍīvadhanvanā ||
babhūva paramopetaḥ svayaṃbhūr iva bhānunā ||
Then Partha said to Parshata, the commander of the army: 'There is an array called Krauncharuna, destroyer of all enemies. It was told by Brihaspati to Indra in the war of gods and asuras. Arrange it properly, this array that destroys the enemy host, so that the kings, together with the Kurus, may see what they have never seen before.' Thus addressed by that god among men, as Vishnu is addressed by the wielder of the thunderbolt, Dhrishtadyumna at dawn placed Dhananjaya at the head of all the armies. His marvelous and beautiful banner, coursing the path of the sun, had been made by Vishvakarman at the command of Indra, the much-invoked. Adorned with pennants the hue of Indra's rainbow, it shone in the sky like a sky-traveler, resembling a city of the gandharvas, and seemed to dance, O worthy one, with every movement of the chariot. With that jeweled banner, Partha, wielder of the Gandiva, attained the highest splendor, like the Self-born One with the sun.
