क्वासि पार्थ न पश्ये त्वां कच्चिज् जीवसि शत्रुहन् ॥
तस्य तं मानुषं भावं भावज्ञो ऽऽज्ञाय पाण्डवः ॥
वायव्यास्त्रेण तैर् अस्तां शरवृष्टिम् अपाहरत् ॥
tataḥ prasiṣvide kṛṣṇaḥ khinnaś cārjunam abravīt ||
kvāsi pārtha na paśye tvāṃ kaccij jīvasi śatruhan ||
tasya taṃ mānuṣaṃ bhāvaṃ bhāvajño ''jñāya pāṇḍavaḥ ||
vāyavyāstreṇa tair astāṃ śaravṛṣṭim apāharat ||
Then Krishna broke into a sweat and, in anguish, spoke to Arjuna: "Where are you, O Partha? I do not see you. Are you alive, O slayer of foes?" And the Pandava, who knows the hearts of others, discerning that human feeling in him, swept away with the astra of Vayu the shower of arrows they had loosed.

Here the mystery of the Lord's descent reveals itself: Krishna sweats and grows anxious, calling out to his friend in a human way — He, the all-knowing, willingly takes on human feeling for the sake of closeness with His devotee. And Arjuna, "knower of hearts," recognizes in this anxiety not ignorance but love, and hastens to still it. It is telling that the Supreme, playing the part of a mortal charioteer, allows Himself worry for a friend: divine love descends even to share the most human of feelings with the one who loves. The verse teaches that the closeness between God and devotee is held by mutual response of heart — the Lord descends to human concern, and the devotee answers it with swift service; and that in the meeting of these two loves is accomplished what surpasses any solitary strength.
