यम् आहुर् अध्यर्धगुणं कृष्णात् पार्थाच् च संयुगे ॥
अभिमन्युं पिशङ्गास् तं कुमारम् अवहन् रणे ॥
एकस् तु धार्तराष्ट्रेभ्यः पाण्डवान् यः समाश्रितः ॥
तं बृहन्तो महाकाया युयुत्सुम् अवहन् रणे ॥
पलालकाण्डवर्णास् तु वार्धक्षेमिं तरस्विनम् ॥
ऊहुः सुतुमुले युद्धे हया हृष्टाः स्वलंकृताः ॥

abhimanyuṃ piśaṅgās taṃ kumāram avahan raṇe ||
ekas tu dhārtarāṣṭrebhyaḥ pāṇḍavān yaḥ samāśritaḥ ||
taṃ bṛhanto mahākāyā yuyutsum avahan raṇe ||
palālakāṇḍavarṇās tu vārdhakṣemiṃ tarasvinam ||
ūhuḥ sutumule yuddhe hayā hṛṣṭāḥ svalaṃkṛtāḥ ||
The one they call, in battle, surpassing Krishna and Partha by half again — Abhimanyu, that youth was borne into battle by tawny horses. And the one who alone among the Dhartarashtras went over to the Pandavas — Yuyutsu was borne into battle by tall horses, mighty of body. Straw-colored, spirited, finely decked horses bore swift Vardhakshemi into the great fray.

Two men stand out here. Abhimanyu, Arjuna's young son, is named as surpassing even Krishna and Partha in battle — the highest praise given to a youth destined to fall in the chakra-vyuha. And Yuyutsu — the "only one" of Dhritarashtra's sons who left his brothers and stood for what was right. That word "only one" is telling: among a hundred brothers, just one chose dharma against blood and gain. The verse teaches that valor can, in the young, surpass renowned elders; and that loyalty to truth sometimes requires standing against one's own kin — Yuyutsu, one of a hundred, chose justice, and the tradition honors this lone, courageous choice above the bonds of blood and blind clan solidarity.
