कोसलाधिपतेः पुत्रं सुक्षत्रं वाजिनो ऽवहन् ॥
शबलास् तु बृहन्तो ऽश्वा दान्ता जाम्बूनदस्रजः ॥
युद्धे सत्यधृतिं क्षैमिम् अवहन् प्रांशवः शुभाः ॥
एकवर्णेन सर्वेण ध्वजेन कवचेन च ॥
अश्वैश् च धनुषा चैव शुक्लैः शुक्लो न्यवर्तत ॥

kosalādhipateḥ putraṃ sukṣatraṃ vājino 'vahan ||
śabalās tu bṛhanto 'śvā dāntā jāmbūnadasrajaḥ ||
yuddhe satyadhṛtiṃ kṣaimim avahan prāṃśavaḥ śubhāḥ ||
ekavarṇena sarveṇa dhvajena kavacena ca ||
aśvaiś ca dhanuṣā caiva śuklaiḥ śuklo nyavartata ||
In an adornment of golden garlands, with bellies the color of the chakravaka goose, horses bore Sukshatra, son of the lord of the Kosalas. Dappled, tall horses, trained, in garlands of pure gold, stately, fair, bore Satyadhriti Kshaimi into battle. All of one uniform white hue — banner, armor, horses, and bow alike white — the white warrior advanced.

Amid the profusion of colors, a warrior appears in whom everything is white — banner, armor, horses, bow: unity of color as an image of wholeness, the indivisibility of a man and his cause. Where before variety struck the eye, here uniform sameness strikes it — and this too is majestic in its own way. It is telling that whiteness, the color of purity and clarity, clothes the warrior entirely. The verse teaches that within multiplicity there is room for perfect simplicity; that wholeness, when everything in a person answers to a single order, is a beauty distinct from colorful abundance; and that the white, undivided figure embodies the ideal of a clear, undivided striving — the whole warrior, like a single white arrow, aimed at his goal.
