पतिम् अन्यं परीप्सस्व न सन्ति पतयस् तव ॥
नरकं पतिताः पार्थाः सर्वे षण्ढतिलोपमाः ॥
समक्षं तव कौरव्य यद् ऊचुः कुरवस् तदा ॥
दासीभोगेन कृष्णां च भोक्तुकामाः सुतास् तव ॥
यच् चापि तान् प्रव्रजतः कृष्णाजिननिवासिनः ॥
परुषाण्य् उक्तवान् कर्णः सभायां संनिधौ तव ॥
patim anyaṃ parīpsasva na santi patayas tava ||
narakaṃ patitāḥ pārthāḥ sarve ṣaṇḍhatilopamāḥ ||
samakṣaṃ tava kauravya yad ūcuḥ kuravas tadā ||
dāsībhogena kṛṣṇāṃ ca bhoktukāmāḥ sutās tava ||
yac cāpi tān pravrajataḥ kṛṣṇājinanivāsinaḥ ||
paruṣāṇy uktavān karṇaḥ sabhāyāṃ saṃnidhau tava ||
...what the Kurus said then before your very eyes, O Kaurava, your sons, lusting to enjoy Krishna as a slave-girl: "Seek yourself another husband — you have no husbands; the Parthas have fallen into hell, all of them like barren sesame seeds"; and the harsh words Karna spoke in the assembly, before you, about the Pandavas departing into exile, clad in black antelope hides...

Mockery in words wounds deeper than a blade: Draupadi is called a slave-girl, her husbands empty grains, and all this before the eyes of a king who stayed silent. It is telling that among the list of wrongs it is not blows but words that burn: they are remembered across years and are answered for on the field of battle. The verse teaches that a harsh word cast at another's humiliation is never lost, but returns as a debt that must be paid in blood.
