ततो मुहूर्तं व्यथितः शरघातप्रपीडितः ॥
निषसाद रथोपस्थे द्रोणो भरतसत्तम ॥
प्रतिलभ्य ततः संज्ञां मुहूर्ताद् द्विजसत्तमः ॥
क्रोधेन महताविष्टो वायव्यास्त्रम् अवासृजत् ॥
असंभ्रान्तस् ततः पार्थो धनुर् आकृष्य वीर्यवान् ॥
तद् अस्त्रम् अस्त्रेण रणे स्तम्भयाम् आस भारत ॥
ततो ऽब्रवीद् वासुदेवः कुन्तीपुत्रं युधिष्ठिरम् ॥
युधिष्ठिर महाबाहो यत् त्वा वक्ष्यामि तच् छृणु ॥
tato muhūrtaṃ vyathitaḥ śaraghātaprapīḍitaḥ ||
niṣasāda rathopasthe droṇo bharatasattama ||
pratilabhya tataḥ saṃjñāṃ muhūrtād dvijasattamaḥ ||
krodhena mahatāviṣṭo vāyavyāstram avāsṛjat ||
asaṃbhrāntas tataḥ pārtho dhanur ākṛṣya vīryavān ||
tad astram astreṇa raṇe stambhayām āsa bhārata ||
tato 'bravīd vāsudevaḥ kuntīputraṃ yudhiṣṭhiram ||
yudhiṣṭhira mahābāho yat tvā vakṣyāmi tac chṛṇu ||
Shaken for a moment, tormented by the blows of arrows, Drona sank down onto the floor of his chariot, O best of the Bharatas. Then, coming to his senses a moment later, the best of the twice-born, overcome by great wrath, released the weapon of Vayu. Then the undismayed, valiant Partha, having drawn his bow, checked that weapon with a counter-weapon in battle, O Bharata. Then Vasudeva spoke to Kunti's son, Yudhishthira: "Yudhishthira, mighty-armed one, hear what I shall tell you."

Even Drona, greatest of teachers, sinks for a moment under a rain of arrows -- no one is invulnerable. It is significant that Yudhishthira quenches the divine weapon of Vayu not by force but with a counter-weapon: knowledge, not greater fury, meets fury. The verse teaches that even the greatest may falter, and that wisdom parries a blow not through sheer might but through precise counteraction; here too enters the voice of Krishna -- a turn from blind combat toward guided purpose.
