यो ह्य् अनस्त्रविदो हन्याद् ब्रह्मास्त्रैः क्रोधमूर्छितः ॥
सर्वोपायैर् न स कथं वध्यः पुरुषसत्तम ॥
विधर्मिणं धर्मविद्भिः प्रोक्तं तेषां विषोपमम् ॥
जानन् धर्मार्थतत्त्वज्ञः किम् अर्जुन विगर्हसे ॥
नृशंसः स मयाक्रम्य रथ एव निपातितः ॥
तन् माभिनन्द्यं बीभत्सो किमर्थं नाभिनन्दसे ॥

yo hy anastravido hanyād brahmāstraiḥ krodhamūrchitaḥ ||
sarvopāyair na sa kathaṃ vadhyaḥ puruṣasattama ||
vidharmiṇaṃ dharmavidbhiḥ proktaṃ teṣāṃ viṣopamam ||
jānan dharmārthatattvajñaḥ kim arjuna vigarhase ||
nṛśaṃsaḥ sa mayākramya ratha eva nipātitaḥ ||
tan mābhinandyaṃ bībhatso kimarthaṃ nābhinandase ||

शब्दशः अर्थ

यः हि अनस्त्रविदः हन्यात्yaḥ hi anastravidaḥ hanyātwho slew those unversed in weapons; who struck down those unacquainted with weapons
ब्रह्मास्त्रैः क्रोधमूर्छितःbrahmāstraiḥ krodhamūrchitaḥwith brahmastras, overcome by wrath; with brahmastras, seized by wrath
सर्वोपायैः न सः कथम्sarvopāyaiḥ na saḥ kathamhow should he not, by all means; how should he not, by every means
वध्यः पुरुषसत्तमvadhyaḥ puruṣasattamabe slain, O best of men; deserve slaying, O best of men
विधर्मिणम् धर्मविद्भिःvidharmiṇam dharmavidbhiḥthe transgressor of dharma, by knowers of dharma; the lawbreaker, by knowers of dharma
प्रोक्तम् तेषाम् विषोपमम्proktam teṣām viṣopamamis declared like poison to them; is called like poison to them
जानन् धर्मार्थतत्त्वज्ञःjānan dharmārthatattvajñaḥknowing, a knower of the truth of dharma and gain; aware, a knower of the essence of dharma and benefit
किम् अर्जुन विगर्हसेkim arjuna vigarhasewhy, Arjuna, do you condemn; why, Arjuna, do you censure
नृशंसः सः मया आक्रम्यnṛśaṃsaḥ saḥ mayā ākramyathat cruel one by me, overtaken; that ruthless one by me, overtaken
रथे एव निपातितःrathe eva nipātitaḥcast down on his very chariot; cast down on his very chariot
तत् मा अभिनन्द्यम् बीभत्सोtat mā abhinandyam bībhatsothat is praiseworthy, Bibhatsu; that is worthy of approval, Bibhatsu
किमर्थम् न अभिनन्दसेkimartham na abhinandasewhy do you not approve; why do you not rejoice
अनुवाद

"He who slew those unversed in the divine weapons with brahmastras, overcome by wrath -- how should he not, by all means, be slain, O best of men? The transgressor of dharma is declared by knowers of dharma to be like poison to them; knowing this, O knower of the truth of dharma and gain, why, Arjuna, do you condemn me? That cruel man, overtaken by me, was cast down on his very chariot; why do you not approve of this, Bibhatsu, which deserves approval?"
