अयुध्यमानं यस् त्व् आजौ तथा प्रायगतं मुनिम् ॥
छिन्नबाहुं परैर् हन्यात् सात्यके स कथं भवेत् ॥
निहत्य त्वां यदा भूमौ स विक्रामति वीर्यवान् ॥
किं तदा न निहंस्य् एनं भूत्वा पुरुषसत्तमः ॥
त्वया पुनर् अनार्येण पूर्वं पार्थेन निर्जितः ॥
यदा तदा हतः शूरः सौमदत्तिः प्रतापवान् ॥

ayudhyamānaṃ yas tv ājau tathā prāyagataṃ munim ||
chinnabāhuṃ parair hanyāt sātyake sa kathaṃ bhavet ||
nihatya tvāṃ yadā bhūmau sa vikrāmati vīryavān ||
kiṃ tadā na nihaṃsy enaṃ bhūtvā puruṣasattamaḥ ||
tvayā punar anāryeṇa pūrvaṃ pārthena nirjitaḥ ||
yadā tadā hataḥ śūraḥ saumadattiḥ pratāpavān ||

शब्दशः अर्थ
संस्कृतIASTअर्थ
अयुध्यमानम् यः तु आजौayudhyamānam yaḥ tu ājaunot fighting, who indeed in battle; not fighting, who then in the fray
तथा प्रायगतम् मुनिम्tathā prāyagatam munimand thus one who had sat in prayopavesha, a sage-like man; and thus one seated in prayopavesha, like a sage
छिन्नबाहुम् परैः हन्यात्chinnabāhum paraiḥ hanyātwith severed arm, by others, would slay; with severed arm, [while restrained] by others, would strike down
सात्यके सः कथम् भवेत्sātyake saḥ katham bhaveto Satyaki, how could that one be; o Satyaki, what then is such a man
निहत्य त्वाम् यदा भूमौnihatya tvām yadā bhūmauhaving felled you to the ground when; when he had felled you to the ground
सः विक्रामति वीर्यवान्saḥ vikrāmati vīryavānhe advanced, the mighty one; he advanced, the mighty one
किम् तदा न निहंसि एनम्kim tadā na nihaṃsi enamwhy then did you not slay him; why then did you not strike him down
भूत्वा पुरुषसत्तमःbhūtvā puruṣasattamaḥhaving become the best of men; proving yourself the best of men
त्वया पुनः अनार्येणtvayā punaḥ anāryeṇaby you again, ignoble one; by you again, unworthy one
पूर्वम् पार्थेन निर्जितःpūrvam pārthena nirjitaḥformerly overcome by Partha; formerly defeated by Partha [his arm severed]
यदा तदा हतः शूरःyadā tadā hataḥ śūraḥthen was slain the hero; then was struck down the hero
सौमदत्तिः प्रतापवान्saumadattiḥ pratāpavānson of Somadatta, mighty; son of Somadatta, mighty
अनुवाद

'Who indeed in battle would strike down one not fighting, thus one seated in prayopavesha like a sage, with his arm severed, while restrained by others — o Satyaki, what then is such a man? When he had felled you to the ground and advanced, mighty as he was, why then did you not slay him, proving yourself the best of men? Only after he had first been overcome by Partha [his arm severed] was the mighty hero, son of Somadatta, then struck down by you, unworthy one.'
