"The Pandava was deceived before, unrighteously -- Yudhishthira; and Draupadi was tormented likewise unrighteously, O Satyaki. All the Pandavas were exiled to the forest together with Krishna [Draupadi]; and all their wealth was taken away likewise unrighteously, O fool. And the king of the Madras [Shalya] was unrighteously lured away by the enemy from here; and here too Bhishma, grandfather of the Kurus, was slain by unrighteousness; and Bhurishravas was unrighteously slain by you, a knower of dharma."

Dhrishtadyumna lists a chain of wrongs -- the deceit at dice, the outrage upon Draupadi, the exile, the death of Bhishma -- ending with Bhurishravas, killed by Satyaki himself. What stands out is that the whole war appears as a weaving of unrighteous acts on both sides. The verse teaches that enmity draws even the righteous into falsehood; but to see this clearly and still justify oneself by another's sins is to make one's own fall final, by declaring unrighteousness the norm.
