An unexpected and important reservation: some succeed without the technique. That is, the book itself acknowledges that what it describes is not the only path, and that some attain otherwise. Reservations of this kind are rare in such compositions and therefore precious. Ordinarily every manual holds that without its own method one cannot; but here it is said: kechit, "some," manage without it.
Worth noting too is the condition: khechari-mantra-siddhasya, "of one accomplished in the mantra of khechari." That is, one accomplished by the word has no need of the technique. This, I think, is the most remarkable passage of the second chapter. A book devoted to the blade, the rubbing, and seven years of labor itself says: one to whom the mantra has come has no need of the knife.
The Vaishnava side asks for nothing more, and it is worth noting that this conclusion was not drawn by her. Of the two means — bodily and verbal — the book itself sets the verbal higher and declares the bodily unnecessary for one who has the word. Separately, a word must be said about vipashchit, "wise," literally "discerning, perceptive"; from vipa, "inspiration," and chit, "to notice." In the Rigveda it names seers. That is, it is not the lazy who manage without technique, but those who see.
