The morning programme at home
The whole morning programme as in Śrīla Prabhupāda's temples — for the home, without Deities: maṅgala-ārati, prayers to Nṛsiṁhadeva, Tulasī-pūjā, japa, Govindam, guru-pūjā and a Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam class. With the full text of every prayer.

This programme follows the morning in the temples founded by Śrīla Prabhupāda — as far as that is possible at home. There is one difference: instead of installed Deities, an altar with pictures. The times given are the temple times; at home they can be shifted as long as the order is kept.
Every prayer is given in full, so you can sing straight from the screen. Each prayer has a transliteration and, if you wish, Devanāgarī and a translation. If you hold the programme alone, sing aloud rather than to yourself: kīrtana is sound.
What you will need: an altar with pictures of Śrīla Prabhupāda, the Pañca-tattva and Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa; optionally, ārati articles (incense, a ghee lamp, a conch with water, a cloth, a flower, a bell), karatālas or a mṛdaṅga.
Rising and preparation
Get up before four, bathe and put on clean clothes. If you wear tilaka, apply it. Put the altar in order: remove yesterday's flowers, set out fresh water, light the lamp.
Maṅgala-ārati: Gurv-aṣṭaka
The first ārati of the day. First, bow down and recite the praṇāma to Śrīla Prabhupāda. Then sing Viśvanātha Cakravartī's Gurv-aṣṭaka — eight stanzas about the spiritual master. The leader sings each stanza and the others repeat it.
After the Gurv-aṣṭaka, sing the mahā-mantra.
If you wish to offer ārati to the pictures on the altar, the order is as follows (each item is circled before the altar clockwise while ringing a bell with the left hand):
- Incense — seven circles before the whole altar.
- A ghee lamp — four circles at the feet, two at the waist, three at the face, seven before the whole altar.
- Water in a conch — three circles at the head, seven before the whole altar; then a little water is sprinkled on those present.
- A cloth — seven circles.
- A flower — seven circles; then it is offered to those present to smell.
- A fan (cāmara) — fan the altar.
Each item is offered first to the picture of Śrīla Prabhupāda, then to the Pañca-tattva, then to Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa. If you have no ārati articles, the programme loses nothing essential: its heart is the singing and the attention.

In the temple the altar is opened at this time and the Deities are greeted with the prayers of the Brahma-saṁhitā with the refrain “govindam ādi-puruṣaṁ tam ahaṁ bhajāmi”. At home, bow to the altar and sing or listen to these prayers. The first ten are here; you can sing more.

Guru-pūjā
Worship of Śrīla Prabhupāda. Sing Narottama dāsa Ṭhākura's “Śrī guru-caraṇa-padma”. If you have the articles, offer ārati to Prabhupāda's picture; everyone may offer a flower at his feet.
Then all bow down and the leader calls out prema-dhvani.
Prema-dhvani is the call of glorification: the leader calls out, and everyone answers "Jaya!" or "Ki jaya!". It is usually called after guru-pūjā and at the end of kīrtana:

Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam class
Every morning one verse of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is read, in order.
- Maṅgalācaraṇa — the opening prayers (below).
- “Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya” — three times, first the leader, then everyone.
- The verse — the leader sings the Sanskrit syllable by syllable, everyone repeats, then all together.
- Word-for-word, translation and Prabhupāda's purport — read aloud.
- Discussion — what the verse means for our life.
- Kīrtana at the end.

I was blind in the darkness of ignorance, and my eyes have been opened with a stick smeared with the ointment of knowledge. Obeisance to that blessed guru.

Breakfast — prasādam
The programme ends with a breakfast of offered food. How to offer it — in the guide “Offering food”.
If the morning is short, keep at least the essentials: maṅgala-ārati, japa and reading one verse of the Bhāgavatam. The order matters more than completeness.
