译文

'Then the saps of great trees and many herbal juices flowed into the waters of the ocean. And from those saps — the essence of immortality — and from [their] milk, and also from the flow of gold, the gods obtained immortality. The waters of that ocean turned into milk, and from the milk, mixed with the finest saps, clarified butter (ghee) was formed. Then the gods said to Brahma, the giver of boons, who sat [there]: "We are exhausted beyond measure, O Brahma, yet the amrita still does not appear — [all are exhausted] except the god Narayana, and the daityas, and the best of the serpents; for this churning of the ocean has long been underway." Then Brahma spoke this word to the god Narayana: "Grant them strength, O Vishnu; you are the [one] refuge here." Vishnu said: "I give strength to all who have undertaken this task; let the vessel [of the waters] be agitated, let Mandara be turned." Suta said: "Having heard the word of Narayana, the [gods], now grown strong, once more violently stirred those waters of the great ocean."'
