译文

Vaishampayana said: "And then he heard from the brahmins about Gandhari, the daughter of Subala — that she, having propitiated the boon-giving god Hara (Shiva), destroyer of Bhaga's eye, had obtained, it is said, a boon: a hundred sons. Having heard this for certain, Bhishma, grandsire of the Kurus, then sent matchmakers to the king of Gandhara, O Bharata. 'Blind!' — this was Subala's hesitation about it; but having weighed with his mind the lineage, fame, and conduct of the Kurus, he gave that virtuous Gandhari to Dhritarashtra."
