तथैवाप्सरसो हृष्टाः सर्वालंकारभूषिताः ॥
ननृतुर् वै महाभागा जगुश् चायतलोचनाः ॥
अनूना चानवद्या च प्रियमुख्या गुणावरा ॥
अद्रिका च तथा साची मिश्रकेशी अलम्बुसा ॥
मरीचिः शिचुका चैव विद्युत्पर्णा तिलोत्तमा ॥
अग्निका लक्षणा क्षेमा देवी रम्भा मनोरमा ॥
असिता च सुबाहुश् च सुप्रिया सुवपुस् तथा ॥
पुण्डरीका सुगन्धा च सुरथा च प्रमाथिनी ॥
काम्या शारद्वती चैव ननृतुस् तत्र संघशः ॥
मेनका सहजन्या च पर्णिका पुञ्जिकस्थला ॥
क्रतुस्थला घृताची च विश्वाची पूर्वचित्त्य् अपि ॥
उम्लोचेत्य् अभिविख्याता प्रम्लोचेति च ता दश ॥
उर्वश्य् एकादशीत्य् एता जगुर् आयतलोचनाः ॥

agnikā lakṣaṇā kṣemā devī rambhā manoramā ||
asitā ca subāhuś ca supriyā suvapus tathā ||
puṇḍarīkā sugandhā ca surathā ca pramāthinī ||
kāmyā śāradvatī caiva nanṛtus tatra saṃghaśaḥ ||
menakā sahajanyā ca parṇikā puñjikasthalā ||
kratusthalā ghṛtācī ca viśvācī pūrvacitty api ||
umlocety abhivikhyātā pramloceti ca tā daśa ||
urvaśy ekādaśīty etā jagur āyatalocanāḥ ||
“Likewise the apsaras, joyful, adorned with every ornament, danced, the blessed ones, and sang, the wide-eyed ones: Anuna, Anavadya, Priyamukhya, Gunavara, Adrika, Sachi, Mishrakeshi, Alambusa, Marichi, Shichuka, Vidyutparna, Tilottama, Agnika, Lakshana, Kshema, the goddess Rambha, Manorama, Asita, Subahu, Supriya, Suvapus, Pundarika, Sugandha, Suratha, Pramathini, Kamya and Sharadvati — danced there in throngs; Menaka, Sahajanya, Parnika, Punjikasthala, Kratusthala, Ghritachi, Vishvachi, Purvachitti, the celebrated Umlocha and Pramlocha — these ten, and the eleventh, Urvashi — these, the wide-eyed ones, sang.”

Here the celestial maidens — the apsaras — join the celebration, singing and dancing at Arjuna's birth. It is significant that heaven itself sends its most beautiful inhabitants to this feast: the joy over the descent of the hero of dharma is universal and complete. Here is the fullness of cosmic rejoicing, granted only to one bound to the Lord. It is significant, too, that scripture does not disdain to list the names of these maidens: tradition carefully preserves the memory of every participant in this sacred celebration. So the long roll of the apsaras' names, like that of the gandharvas before it, serves one purpose — to reveal the boundless greatness of the newborn Arjuna, whom the whole fullness of heaven comes out to greet.
