पितर ऊचुः
य एष मन्युजस् ते ऽग्निर् लोकान् आदातुम् इच्छति ॥
अप्सु तं मुञ्च भद्रं ते लोका ह्य् अप्सु प्रतिष्ठिताः ॥
आपोमयाः सर्वरसाः सर्वम् आपोमयं जगत् ॥
तस्माद् अप्सु विमुञ्चेमं क्रोधाग्निं द्विजसत्तम ॥
pitara ūcuḥ
ya eṣa manyujas te 'gnir lokān ādātum icchati ||
apsu taṃ muñca bhadraṃ te lokā hy apsu pratiṣṭhitāḥ ||
āpomayāḥ sarvarasāḥ sarvam āpomayaṃ jagat ||
tasmād apsu vimuñcemaṃ krodhāgniṃ dvijasattama ||
The ancestors said: "This fire, born of your anger, wishing to consume the worlds -- release it into the waters, blessings upon you; for the worlds are established upon the waters. All essences are of the nature of water, the whole world is of the nature of water; therefore release into the waters this fire of anger, O best of the twice-born."

Here wisdom finds a way out -- not to suppress anger but to direct it harmlessly. The ancestors' decision is telling: the fire of anger is neither to be extinguished nor left as it is, but turned to where it will not destroy the living -- into the waters. Here is the art of transforming passion: a destructive force should not be blindly denied but redirected into a good [/harmless] channel. Thus the scripture shows that even unconquerable anger can be rendered harmless through wise arrangement; and the ancestors show Aurva how to fulfill his vow without destroying the worlds.
