वैशंपायन उवाच
पार्थः प्राप्य धनुःश्रेष्ठम् अक्षय्यौ च महेषुधी ॥
रथं ध्वजं सभां चैव युधिष्ठिरम् अभाषत ॥
धनुर् अस्त्रं शरा वीर्यं पक्षो भूमिर् यशो बलम् ॥
प्राप्तम् एतन् मया राजन् दुष्प्रापं यद् अभीप्सितम् ॥
तत्र कृत्यम् अहं मन्ये कोशस्यास्य विवर्धनम् ॥
करम् आहारयिष्यामि राज्ञः सर्वान् नृपोत्तम ॥
विजयाय प्रयास्यामि दिशं धनदरक्षिताम् ॥
तिथाव् अथ मुहूर्ते च नक्षत्रे च तथा शिवे ॥

vijayāya prayāsyāmi diśaṃ dhanadarakṣitām ||
tithāv atha muhūrte ca nakṣatre ca tathā śive ||
Vaishampayana said: Partha, having obtained the finest bow, two inexhaustible great quivers, a chariot, a banner, and the assembly hall, said to Yudhishthira: "The bow, weapons, arrows, valor, allies, land, fame, strength — all this, hard to attain, that which was desired, have I obtained, O king. Therefore I consider it a duty to increase this treasury: I shall gather tribute from all kings, O best of kings. For conquest I shall set forth toward the quarter guarded by Dhanada [Kubera], on an auspicious tithi, muhurta, and an equally auspicious nakshatra."

Arjuna, having enumerated all he has gained, sees in wealth not an object of enjoyment but an instrument of duty: the "increase of the treasury" is needed for the king's sacrifice, not for himself. It is notable that he intends to set out at a favorable hour — by tithi, muhurta, nakshatra: even a righteous undertaking is aligned with sacred time. The verse teaches that gifts and strength are given not for possession but for service to the common good; and one who begins a labor by invoking a blessing entrusts the outcome not to his own valor but to a higher order.
