एतेषु विजितेष्व् अद्य भविष्यति मही मम ॥
सर्वे च पृथिवीपालाः सभा सा च महाधना ॥

"Together with you, O king, and with these and other great chariot-warriors, I shall conquer these very ones, if you consent. When they are defeated now, the earth shall become yours, and all the kings, and that hall rich in treasures."

Behind the craving for 'that hall rich in treasures' the root of the scheme is laid bare -- greed for what belongs to another. It is notable that the object of desire is precisely the assembly hall where Duryodhana was mocked: wounded pride wants to seize the very thing that humiliated it. The verse teaches that envy and greed are twins: unable to find peace at another's good fortune, the soul craves to appropriate it. But what envy seizes brings no joy -- Duryodhana will covet the hall too, and will find no happiness in it, for happiness dwelt not in the crystal but in the virtue of its owners. Whoever chases the fruits of another's righteousness without gaining its root will grasp only an empty husk.
