विना राज्ञो धृतराष्ट्रस्य पुत्रैःvinā rājño dhṛtarāṣṭrasya putraiḥbesides the sons of King Dhritarashtra?
पृच्छामि त्वां विदुर ब्रूहि नस् तान्pṛcchāmi tvāṃ vidura brūhi nas tānI ask you, Vidura; tell us those

Vidura does not conceal the truth: 'gamblers who rely on deceit are gathered there.' His forthrightness is telling—he calls cheats by their name, warning openly. The verse teaches that a faithful counselor neither flatters nor embellishes: he lays before the one about to go the whole truth of the danger, so that he walks, at least, with open eyes. Vidura has fulfilled his duty to the end—he named deceit as deceit. And that Yudhishthira will go nonetheless is not on the conscience of the one who warned him: to warn truthfully is the limit of an honest man's power; beyond it begins the freedom and fate of the one summoned. Whoever has openly named the trap is clear of blame, even if the one warned steps into it all the same.
