नारदश् च सभामध्ये कुरूणाम् अग्रतः स्थितः ॥
महर्षिभिः परिवृतो रौद्रं वाक्यम् उवाच ह ॥
इतश् चतुर्दशे वर्षे विनङ्क्ष्यन्तीह कौरवाः ॥
दुर्योधनापराधेन भीमार्जुनबलेन च ॥
इत्य् उक्त्वा दिवम् आक्रम्य क्षिप्रम् अन्तरधीयत ॥
ब्राह्मीं श्रियं सुविपुलां बिभ्रद् देवर्षिसत्तमः ॥
nāradaś ca sabhāmadhye kurūṇām agrataḥ sthitaḥ ||
maharṣibhiḥ parivṛto raudraṃ vākyam uvāca ha ||
itaś caturdaśe varṣe vinaṅkṣyantīha kauravāḥ ||
duryodhanāparādhena bhīmārjunabalena ca ||
ity uktvā divam ākramya kṣipram antaradhīyata ||
brāhmīṃ śriyaṃ suvipulāṃ bibhrad devarṣisattamaḥ ||
And Narada, standing before the Kuru assembly, surrounded by great sages, uttered a fearsome word: 'In the fourteenth year from now the Kauravas will perish here — through the fault of Duryodhana and by the might of Bhima and Arjuna.' Having said this, ascending to heaven, the best of the divine sages, bearing within him the vast splendor of Brahma, swiftly vanished.

To the portents of nature is now added the voice of a heavenly seer: what the lightning and the eclipse proclaimed without words, Narada now declares openly, naming the time, the cause, and the instrument of destruction. Thus the warning comes threefold — through the departing forms, through the convulsion of the elements, through the word of the sage — so that no room for ignorance remains. It is significant that the seer names the guilty party directly: 'through the fault of Duryodhana' — fate here is not impersonal but bound to a free act of wrongdoing. The verse teaches that heaven does not hide what is to come from those still able to reconsider; that a threefold warning strips the forewarned of any excuse of ignorance; and that a prophecy of doom is the last call to repentance — and one who rejects it brings the sentence upon himself.
